I want my product and message to relate to a very large audience but in particular highschool seniors like myself would be the target demographic.
Purpose
I want to have my audience agree with my message.
Message
Space Exploration creates a global community like nothing else. It brings countries and cultures together in a way that could end harsh nationalism and create world peace.
I want my audience to think that Space Exploration is a way to bring all people of the world together. It unfies humankind.
I would specifically like to show that a minimal percentage of the U.S. budget is spent on Space Exploration. I want my audience to feel that there is not enough being done to go farther than we have before.
I want my audience to advocate what they learned from my presentation and support the advance of this technology.
I want my audience to walk away with the idea that viewing the world from space could change the way humankind sees humankind. If important decisons were made with the planets future as a whole in mind then human life here on Earth could continue indefinitely without the problems facing us now and in the future.
Research Time
Goal for 11/17/09:
Important items/resources that must go in my Prezi:
Fact: The 2007 budget allocates roughly $609 billion to defense, not including the budget for the Department of Homeland Security. This is nearly 38 times the amount of money spent on NASA. If you include funding for the Department of Homeland Security, defense spending adds up to $652.5 billion, which is more than 40 times NASA’s budget.
Goal for 11/13/09:
What do I need from Ms. Moorman, Ms. Allen and my classmates to help me complete this process?
- Nothing, I can't think of anything at all.
What do you have left to do?
- A lot of stuff. I need to create my Prezi, but not only do I need the shell, but I need to fill it with my information. Goal and Progress for 11/11/09:

Audience and Mediums
What do you want your audience to know and understand?
I want my audience to fully understand what space exploration and technology can do for the global community. I think it is more than just a common theme in Sci-Fi movies, I think this is real.
I want my audience to learn about current space projects that I have researched and hopefully find them as interesting as I do.
Of course I want them to know of the different countries policies:
European Policy (Perspective): EuroPerspective.pdf
United States Policy: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goal for 11/9/09:
Today I should find a medium for my project as well as what I would like to communicate to my audience .
I can go to the main page and look at the list of mediums: Progress for 11/9/09:
Since such a focus has been put on perspectives, I think that what I want to explain to the audience is how the policies of the countries I investigate reflect the numbers and facts I gather in my research, these policies are the perspectives. I want to conclude the presentation with a general summary of what this means globally, to me this is the kicker and will require the most thought. The reason this is the most important part is that space exploration is something that I think can have tremendous impact on political, environmental and humanitarian issues. Politicaly, modern space exploration naturally draws countries together, of course with the exception of the space race. Environmentally, space technology could be used to find ways to solve environmental problems with the overlap of technologies. Globally, space exploration unites the human race as we begin to leave our world and explore the reaches of the solar system.
Medium:
Moving Visual Presentation...
Prezi with Space Background- This is my favorite Idea. I think if I made a Prezi w/ a Space Theme and background would be really cool and achievable.
TED Talk Style- I really like these, they seem important and effective. However, I do not want to film myself talking.
Back of the Napkin- Would not quite work aesthetically with my topic, I still like the idea of it.
Goal for 11/3/09:
I need to find my multiple perspectives, I was unable to accomplish that goal last class. Today at the beginning of class we discussed the importance of multiple perspectives. I imagine that i will be able to find a few of these. Progress 11/3/09: This PDF shows military spending per capita in 2002, this gives me the chance to compare what the country spends on "Killing Technology" opposed to space technology, I think it is likely that the countries with the highest military budget will also have the most updated and higher end space programs; this is a result of the Cold War of course which may be out dated, but more than likely is still the case. One problem I see is that comparatively small countries with high military budgets, like Kuwait and Israel come out on top even though they don't actually spend close to the amount that the U.S. spends.
Map showing funds in the military and defense budget:
Goal for 10/30/09: My goal for today’s research period is to find multiple countries perspectives/policies on space exploration for the new decade as well as their comparative advantages to other countries in this millenniums space race.
If time allows I would also like to develop decide on a possible final product for this nine weeks open research project. My idea for right now, which will require further development, is to make a website and post a presentation/ article on it. Progress for 10/30/09:
I spent all of my time formatting and I did not complete my intended goal, I hope to do this outside of class which is fine because it is interesting. Since I can work on this project anywhere I have internet it will probably be easier if I use my laptop at home.

I have some stuff to work with when picking and refinig a question.
